Once the "Wait" of "Lift Coming" light is on then the relay (or software)
has latched onto your request. Some situations cause lifts to cancel the
"Lift Coming" - usually on sophisticated installations with more than one
lift if another one is nearer.

However - some people like to register their particular presence as they
think it helps.

Thank goodness for that - I was thinking you were also the person who has to
make a real point of slapping down one of those "Next Customer" bars on the
supermarket belt behind my shopping.

Ha ha ha - guilty as charged!! I do do that sometimes, but only when I'm
annoyed by someone in Asda! Normally, I just put my items on the supermarket
belt and let the person who forgot to put one down tell the checkout
assistant, "oh... er... that's not mine". I then politely put one down
behind my shopping to tell the next customer that I have finished.
