It is perfectly safe to drive at a speedo indicated 80mph on uk motorways.
Because UK speedos over-read - your true speed will be around 75mph and no
motorway police will prosecute below a true 80 mph.

You were probably up to something and it's all they could get you for.
If you were otherwise doing nothing wrong, it's highly unlikely you'd
get done for doing 77 in a 70.

Unless you were black, of course. Driving while black is an offence
in its own right.
