Have to admit, I wasn't assuming slow-moving/stationary traffic, but
freer-moving.

You're right that it's the polite thing to do - but that's different to
priority.

Merely knowing it might not, but knowing AND FOLLOWING it certainly would.

HOw many people who know it inside out follow it to the letter anyway? Not many
I'll wager. Knowing something and taking any notice of what you know are
2 different things - people know drinking, cigarettes and fatty food is bad
in large doses but they still drink until drunk , smoke and eat burgers
until they look like the michelin man.

While that may be so, OTOH in some countries there are shootings over this
kind of thing. That's why they have laws about your gun being unloaded while
in a car.
