Indeed, but as long as the man with a spanner has an appropriate piece of paper to show that he can work safely in the yard removing parts from vehicles deemed to be scrap he doesn't have to be a fully qualified mechanic who has a responsibility/liability when repairing cars for further use on the road.

They might have cars "stacked up", but they're almost certainly racked, the ground'll be concrete and properly tanked/drained - and anything you want will be removed for you.

Here's 2 - I could post another ten, all doing exactly the same today as in the google streetview - help yourself, that'll be a tenner mate. They may well 'drain the fuel' usually by sticking a screwdriver thru the bottom of the tank, but these are strictly - fetch yourself places. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=withy+road&sll=52.524916,-2.021184&sspn=0.012716,0.03798&gl=uk&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Withy+Rd,+Wednesfield,+Wolverhampton+WV14+0,+United+Kingdom&ll=52.556251,-2.086415&spn=0.006301,0.01899&z=16&layer=c&cbll=52.556042,-2.086456&panoid=iGhTWyatySNRCxBHYqIapg&cbp=12,270.57,,0,3.38 http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=withy+road&sll=52.524916,-2.021184&sspn=0.012716,0.03798&gl=uk&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Withy+Rd,+Wednesfield,+Wolverhampton+WV14+0,+United+Kingdom&layer=c&cbll=52.555806,-2.086504&panoid=KbwnZ2nLH2aiNAdpHw0e6A&cbp=12,299.84,,0,-1.06&ll=52.555912,-2.08648&spn=0.006301,0.01899&z=16

In a "trad" scrappy they'd be stacked four or more high and the ground would be a mudbath with a mixture of water, various oils, diesel (limited amounts) and possibly petrol before it evaporated. |
