You don't cycle, do you?

Remember them 'gear' thingies in your van?
Now, it may come as a surprise to you but they can be used to go slower
rather than always faster.

As long as the money ( power and control) ends up in the right hands

Yeah , all those climate scientists are secretly plotting to take over the
world. They say they get research grants but we all know they use the money
to build secret underground bunkers inside volcanos with huge weather
controlling machines!

An FoI request would only get you government data wherever you are.
in the case of a university, none of which are covered by FoI, you would
not be entitled to any information. You might get some if you ask the
right way, you might not, they might just turn around and say all the
information we have is published in relevant journals. (Except of course
that work which is paid for by commercial companies about which we can
tell you nothing.)

In this particular case UEA have to take a lot of the responsibility
since they took a "head in the sand" attitude to the whole matter until
the last few days.

It was supposedly a hack from some Russian source rather than any
whistleblower according to the trail of evidence presented. It is
illegal if done within certain countries - think of Gary McKinnon and
what he is charged with - NASA is a civilian organisation, not a
military one. The probability of getting extradition from Russia on this
basis is probably zero in any case. In this case the hackers could
publish whatever they want to back up their own agenda. This would
invalidate it altogether to my mind since we are only given a partial
picture - according to some sources about 1% of what was hacked is being
presented.
