So you weren't a Special Traffic Patrol cop hiding behind trees?

But did you wear jodhpurs?
Were you mounted?

Answer this simple question Oz and I *will* be able to help
you out here.

Nuddy.

I agree that overhauling a motor and spending big bucks is a wank in a lot
of cases. Older engines had better tolerance for stopgap fixes. Valve paste
is a useful and often can improve performance for $5 if you already have the
head gasket.
I know you will say that if you are going to do it do it properly but in
many cases you can overhaul an old motor for $100, as soon as you go to a
machine shop the bill will skyrocket. I know of a case where a heap of old
Holden's were blowing smoke and so couldn't be sold easily. The replacement
of the second compression ring and the oil rings fixed the problem and
allowed the sale of the vehicles, I believe the operation was performed
through the sump so no head gasket and only some gasket goo on the sump. The
top ring was left in place so there was no chance of damaging the new rings
on a lip that's Dodgey I know, but he made a buck on the deal and I know the
cars went for years after that with no problems. Repco have done some good
engines but they have done some shockers as well. Every mechanic has their
bugbears some are crazy about wheel bearings others will not use silicone on
any gasket. Many times a quick fix will last for years, especially on low
tec low stress jobs.

Duh stupid. It hasn't been running fine. That is the issue. She only
bought the car a few months ago and it has done this a few times now.
The plugs were replaced a couple of weeks ago before she drove the car
to Brisbane and back from Victoria. Perhaps it's you who has the limited
cognitive ability. She is currently on her way back to Victoria and the
leads will be waiting for her when she arrives. She will then get her
regular mechanic to replace them.
